I’m working full time (average about 48 hours a week) and i’m taking 9 hours (which is all i can take) at a traditional university at the moment. My job is a temporary and i’m trying to finish school to have a back up plan so taking only 9 hours a semester is going to take me about 3 years to finish, which may be too long. So anyways University of Phoenix and Devry would allow me to get a degree a lot faster but i’m not sure if many employers would hire me. By the way I want to obtain a degree in Finance or Information Technology. And pursue a career as a Real Estate Broker, Loan Originator/Officer, Financial Advisor, or Database Manager.

Probably not. UofP and DeVry are notorious as "diploma mills". Their business is to give people diplomas rather than to give them a good education. It would probably be better to take an evening program at a traditional college.
It goes way beyond issues of accreditation with these two schools, and it’s all about their reputation with employers. Now, some employers could care less – so long as you have a degree, they don’t care where it was from, so long as the place wasn’t literally a diploma mill. However, U of Phoenix and Devry (and ITT, and Strayer, and Kaplan, and…) are famous for being poor quality schools. Rightly or wrongly (in my opinion, rightly), this is how some employers see them. There are now enough employers who literally will not look at a degree from U of P or Devry that I can not, in good faith, recommend that you go there. It will be too limiting to your future job prospects. As an employer, I’d rather you attend Joe Blow State College than U of Phoenix.
In addition, many reputable graduate schools will not accept you, because of where you’d gone for undergrad. And transfer of credits to another school, should you choose to later change your undergrad school, is quite difficult, again due to concerns about the quality of education and certain accreditation issues.
If U of P and Devry are your only options, and you really want IT/Database Management, go for Devry. It has a better rep for tech than U of P does, but again, that doesn’t mean that some employers won’t frown on Devry. But fewer will frown on Devry, in this particular field, than on U of P. And if these are really your only two options, do IT and do Devry. Don’t do finance in either place. That’ll be a dead-end.
You do have another option for a way to get your degree done faster. See if a local university or college near you offers an accelerated bachelors degree program for adults. These are often offered at the smaller, private schools, and in my area, they’re at the Catholic colleges, like Nyack, St. Peter’s, Mercy and Dominican. These programs are reputable, and they are designed to get you through as quickly as possible. For example, they’ll shorten the semester, to allow you to pack in as many credit hours in a year as possible, and they don’t give breaks – you go year round, so you get out faster. You could graduate in two years, or less if you have transfer credits. The usual majors offered through such programs are those in the business field, so you may find finance and IT, if you look.
So my preference is that you try to find an accelerated bachelors degree program at a small, private college near you. One that is appropriately accredited, and reputable. If none of those exist, then you can consider Devry, but only major in a tech field, and go in knowing that some – not all, but some – employers won’t be loving that you went there.
I currently go to U of P and love it. If it is something you are interested in learning about you should call the person i talked to at the school. HIs name is Nick, 602-713-0485. My job is paying for half of my education now so I assume most if not all employers are going to recognize the degree.
There are other online schools with better reputations than u of p- check this link for some brick and mortar schools, that also may be cheaper. Nothing wrong with online, but why those schools? I’ve known people with good experiences at Devry, but I always think it’s best to look at more than one option.

and it’s tough to transfer back out of u of p. Think about what you really want to do- any chance you’d ever go for an MBA? Even 30 yrs from now?
But are these universities expected, while persuing higher studies in India? For example, if I have done bacholers Degree from University of Phoenix or Devry, am I elegible for Regular MBA program or distance learning programs (from the institutes like IMT or Simbiosis), in India.
It depends very much on the employer. If the employer him/herself went to a traditional college, the answer is generally no. If the employer didn’t go to college, s/he probably doesn’t know the difference. Also, if the idea behind the degree requirement is just for the employer to say that the employee has a college degree, the online degree from a commercial enterprise may be respected, but if the idea is to ensure a level of knowledge, then probably not. The idea that you are doing this to finish faster gives a clue – speed is not supposed to be the issue in getting a degree. If taking courses at a traditional university is difficult to fit into your work schedule, then consider taking online courses at a traditional university – there are plenty now which offer online versions of what you are taking now. But if what you are looking for is a shortcut – less time, less work – then no, it is usually not as well-respected, nor should it be, just as anything done in a shoddy manner shouldn’t be as well-respected as the real thing.
No.
Think about this, if UOP or Devry offered an MD degree, would you feel comfortable with a graduate operating on you.
1st of all, I would like to say that I am a graduate of UOP and my school actually has campuses throughout the USA as well as online studies. I worked my ass off probably harder then anyone I know that went to a traditional college, go look at the actual curriculum for your degree program & compare it to traditional studies “pretty freaking similar” this is why UOP is a regionally accredited school “MEANING” traditional colleges “WILL” take your credits if you decide to transfer or enroll for a different degree. The faculty members of University of Phoenix are teachers, as well as dedicated working professionals. They have advanced degrees and substantial experience in the fields they teach. This enables them to bring a powerful combination of theory and practical expertise to the classroom. So, excuse me for saying but my education is not a joke & employers take my degree very serious, I work for a fortune 500 company because of my experience & degree. BTW, I only have a degree from UOP so the theory that my degree does not count is ridiculous! I have one more thought, if “online education” is so non-traditional or a joke then why is that traditional colleges are now offering online classes????? That’s pretty funny to me
